Thanks for the question Alexia. My aim to to make molecules which can help us to learn more about diseases where inflammation can cause more harm than good in our bodies. My molecules do this by stopping certain processes in our body which affect how our cells start the inflammatory process. It’s a bit like I am trying to develop a ‘chemical toolbox’ – using the different tools to investigate different parts of the process, so that we learn more about the process itself. This understanding may then lead us to be able to develop new drugs carefully targeting the excessive inflammation which causes the problems.
