I am from East London, i still live at home with my family (I am only 19!). I have no pets, my favourite takeaway is Turkish! then second is Pizza, i am into the soaps on TV (who isn’t?).
I consider myself to be open-minded, a good listener, empathetic, honest and ethical, and so much more. The way I tackle tasks is totally dependent on the situation and whether i am working alone or in a group. I believe I am good at reading a situation to ensure everyone as well as myself are comfortable and able to complete a task efficiently and effectively.

I am a year 2 Civil Engineering apprentice for a Civil Engineering company. Civil engineering projects vary from tunneling, bridges, highways, rail etc. I have worked within the tunneling sector for 2 years now, I’ve worked on task briefings, method statements/risk assessment, as well as ordering materials needed for the site, setting out where plant and/or structures will be as well as assisting with eh actual building of the tunnel. I know its a typical saying but each day is truly different, you may be doing the same task each day but you’ll face different challenges or new ways of carrying out that said task. I enjoy the social, flexible side of the work, being on site everyday you aren’t stuck in the office, and because of the different sectors involved on the project you can learn different sides of the job.
I always knew I wanted a hands on job as I would consider myself to be visual learner. I’d say I got my love for numbers from my mum, and my love for engineering and building things from my dad, so after secondary school I went to an engineering college where I studied Engineering, maths and construction and the built environment. Did I know what I wanted to be? No, no i didn’t and I think it is very rare to know exactly what you want to do at such a young age, especially if you have had no experience in any field. During college i secured a 2 week work experience for a civil engineering company, where i got to work on 2 completely different projects. My trait of curiosity and wanting to know how things are built led me to further pursue a career in engineering.

My Typical Day:
I get to work in time to attend the morning briefing where we find out what work got completed over the night and what we are working on that day, the risks and what has been put in place to reduce them. I then look at my emails in the site office, put my PPE on and go out on site. During my first year I was mainly office based, I went on site when i didn’t have much to do within the office and/or if I was needed on site. This year I spend most of the day down the tunnel, so as soon as the morning briefing is over I get changed into my PPE and head down the tunnel. The outcome of each day all depends on how it was left prior to your shift, correcting or continuing progress is key.
