I live in Scotland with my Husband and our two snakes (my babies!) I love animals- I study them at work and in my free time I’m usually watching the local seal population with my awesome pair of binoculars I got at Christmas! I also love the sea and spend most of my time by the ocean (scuba diving or looking under rocks for small friends.) I spend a lot of time working with Maldives Whale Shark Research Project (MWSRP) helping advise on whale shark science. I’m also a British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) medic which involves helping any stranded sea animals back into the sea!

Circadian rhythms control our life- from going to sleep and waking up at the right times to telling animals when they should have babies. These rhythms are really important for making sure our physiology is matches the environment (if you’re a brid you don’t want to moult in the winter!) I’m researching if and how stress can alter these rhythms when an animal is a developing embryo.
I’m also researching Whale Sharks (the biggest fish in the whole world!) and how stress can effect their behavioural ecology.
-
My Typical Day:
When I get into work the first thing I do is usually check on the birds and tell them how cute they are. After this there will either be lab work that needs to be done or behavioural experiments to study the birds. Recently I gave the birds tiny backpacks to see if we could study their activity in a way that doesn’t stress them!
