I work on my PhD at Lancaster University with Rothamsted Research. I work with the Fall Armyworm moth and the African Armyworm moth, which cause a problem for many crops, including sweetcorn. Sweetcorn (Maize) is a very important crop in Africa.
My work involves rearing many moths and growing plants. I also do experiments to study their behaviour, what plants they like and do not like and why. I also study chemical smells and what attacks the moth and its caterpillars. I am trying to find ways of stopping the moth’s caterpillars from eating our crops.

I look after the moths, I make sure they have enough food, pair them up and then collect their eggs. My caterpillars are cannibalistic so they eat each other, so each caterpillar has to be kept in a separate pot.
