I live in Bath with my girlfriend and our cat Parker. We’ve been staying with my mum during the coronavirus pandemic, but we hope to move to Bristol some time soon! I love doing things outdoors, like mountain biking, skiing, and rock climbing. I also play lots of video games, and I think they really helped me to stay connected with my friends during lockdown 🙂 My favourite movies are the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I love cooking food from all parts of the world, and there is nothing I don’t eat. I think the weirdest foods (like brain, insects, and oysters) taste the best!

Over the last four years I was studying for my PhD at the University of York. I looked at the different types of insects that live on British and non-British plants. It turns out that non-British plants growing in this country have less insects living on them compared with British plants. But, some British insects actually depend on non-British plants to survive!
At the same time as doing my PhD I became very passionate about telling people about science. I’ve organised science festivals in York, created a Mosquito Jenga game to teach kids about why mosquitos aren’t so bad really, and I’ve fed crickets and mealworms to thousands of people at science festivals. That may sound gross, but actually insects taste really good! Insects are very healthy for you, and producing them is much better for the planet than meat like beef or pork.
