I live in London for work and travel back to Bristol to see my family a lot. My pass times include reading, yoga and improvising on the piano. We have a small dog named Holly who’s a little crazy!

officially I’m a PhD researcher in deep marine sedimentology. I use methods from geology, geophysics and physical oceanography to understand the Earth’s sub surface beneath the seafloor. To achieve this acoustic data is used to construct many 2D images or a 3D block of the sub surface (known as seismic data) which reveals the Earth’s history. A bit like looking at rock layers in a cliff but at a much larger scale.
-
My Typical Day:
On a typical day I go to my office and use my computer to study data. I will then design computer models to describe my findings. Lastly I write the results of my study. Sometimes I get to travel to exciting places and live in different countries for work.

Firstly I read scientific literature to understand a study area for which I have data.
I then interpret the seismic data and use mathematical functions to generate 3D subsurface models which are tied to the 2D or 3D seismic data, these extrapolations are the basis for my analysis.
statistics are derived from my models and written as results for scientific publication.
Lastly I use graphic design to present my results in an interesting way that is easy to understand.
